Physical Education

At Broadmere Primary, our aim is to raise awareness of PE and healthy living. Children learn the fundamental motor skills that enable them to develop the competence that creates confidence and leads to safe and successful participation in a wide range of sports. Many activities taught in PE require children to work in groups to solve problems or as a team.  These opportunities are excellent for developing both leadership and cooperation skills.


We are delighted to work with Woking Football Club who deliver well-planned, structured and engaging lessons to meet the needs of all our children.

Here at Broadmere we are very conscience of the children’s physical well-being and that they continue to live active and healthy lifestyles in this unprecedented time. The PE National Curriculum encompasses that children learn new motor skills, develop cognitive abilities such as thinking of tactics and learn to develop a positive attitude to live a healthy lifestyle.

We have also suggested aims for parents and carers to look at in order for them to get a clear idea of how much activity is suggested, which is informed by the current scientific evidence from the UK Chief Medical Officers' Physical Activity Guidelines (2019).

  • Aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise a day (Children aged 5-18)  
  • Children should participate in a range of activities to help stimulate muscle fitness, bone strength and movement skills. This could include running, jumping, catching and throwing. Different intensities of activities are also advocated. But importantly we would encourage children to take up an activity where they become out of breath – this is a good indicator that they are working their bodies harder than normal and so developing their physical fitness.
  • Try to minimise sedentary behaviours where possible. For example, long spells of watching TV or sitting time on screen activities (this is the most widely reported form of sedentary activity reported to the guidelines).

As a result, we thought it would be appropriate to upload resources to help facilitate children’s physical and mental development. Below is not an exhaustive list of resources to give parents and carers but to give some ideas on how to keep active and socially distant.

This initial list of physical education (PE) and physical activity resources is based on recommendations from:

  • the Association for Physical Education (afPE)
  • Public Health England (PHE)  
  • Sport England  
  • the Yorkshire Sport Foundation (YSF)

All the resources listed here are for activities designed to be carried out indoors or, if available, a garden or park.

Children and young people can go outside to exercise every day, such as:

  • a walk with members of their household
  • a run with members of their household
  • a cycle with members of their household

Children and young people should always follow the latest official advice on social distancing, which means making sure that they and their parent or carer stay more than 2 meters from others (including friends and other family members).

All the teachers really enjoy seeing how the children are exercising and having fun at home. Please send in pictures of you and your families having fun.

Please keep in mind that all of the aims are suggestions and that we have included them in order to give you clarity. They are not an expectation at this time but something that we can strive for. If you meet them, that is fantastic, but please remember that when being active the best form of motivation for children and adults to carry on exercising is when they have fun. Therefore, seeking active activities that children enjoy and have fun is of most importance.
