At New Monument Primary we believe that our English curriculum should develop children’s love of reading, writing, speaking and listening. We aim for all children to be confident communicators who can go on to have a positive impact in the wider world. We strive to create fluent, expressive, passionate readers who can make informed choices about the materials they select for reading. We believe that all children should develop a secure knowledge-base which they can build upon and use with increasing independence.

We provide children with exciting cross curricular opportunities that link to the wider world and enhance our English curriculum. The development of vocabulary is at the forefront of all learning across the curriculum. A range of engaging materials are used throughout the school to enhance the learning of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.  Texts are carefully selected to provide children with appropriate challenge, deepen thinking and support learning. Regular writing opportunities are provided to ensure children experience writing for a range of purposes.
